About Iyengar Yoga
The art and science of asanas (postures) and breathing are taught to access all parts of your body (and mind) with strong emphasis on alignment. Yoga postures tone the body and create space for the effective functioning of the organs e.g. the heart and digestive track.
Clear instruction, and adjustment where necessary, engages the students mind. Preventing a wandering mind results in a meditative state. Relaxation at the end of class once again quietens the mind.
Iyengar Yoga teachers are continually inspired and educated by world renowned Yoga practitioner, the late Mr B.K.S. Iyengar.
Cornelia as an Iyengar Yoga teacher of over 30 years, has been trained to rigorous international standards as outlined for all Iyengar Yoga Associations worldwide by Mr B. K. S. Iyengar himself.
Cornelia is bound by a code of ethics and required to undertake professional development each year with Senior certified teachers.
She is regarded as a senior teacher in NZ contributing to the association and assessments of new teachers.
Cornelia Regnier started Yoga at 16 following a surprise yoga class with an enlightened P.E. teacher in high school. She became a more serious and conscientious practitioner in early 1980 after a workshop with New Zealand’s first Iyengar Yoga teacher Martin Jackson. Her first class with Mr B. K. S. Iyengar (founder of the Iyengar system of Yoga) was in 1992, on his one and only visit to NZ. Since then Corry has regularly attended classes at the Institute in Pune, India for professional development as a teacher and for her own journey in Yoga.
